THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, March 8, 2006.
Lois E. Stratton, 88, of Ames died Monday, March 6, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames from complications of a heart attack.
Lois was born Jan. 25, 1918, in Colo to Joseph and Lulu (Dayton) Brownfield. The family moved to Champaign, Ill., when she was 2 years old, and then moved back to Colo when she was 10. After graduating from Colo High School in 1936, she worked at Iowa State University in the dairy cattle disease test lab. She married Galen "Fritz" Stratton March 24, 1943, in Princeton, Mo. They farmed a mile west of Nevada on Lincoln Highway for 38 years before retiring in 1983.
She is survived by her husband, Fritz, of Ames; two sons, Gary Stratton of Hudson and Gale (Kae) Stratton of Nevada; five grandchildren, Galen (Teresa) Stratton of Williamsburg, Garrett (Stephanie) Stratton of Topeka, Kan., Karmin Stratton of Baltimore, Md., Lisa (Jim) Weigel of Grimes and Nikki (Dennis) Pratt of Nevada; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister, Lillian (Hap) Wokoun of Tulsa, Okla.; one sister-in-law, Berneice Brownfield of Colo; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Glenn "Tony" Brownfield; one sister, Marion Ewoldt; one daughter-in-law, Maxine Stratton; and one granddaughter, Kimberly Stratton.
No visitation is planned. A private family burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
Bacon Funeral and Crematory of Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
