THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, March 7, 2006.

Danny L. Faga, 68, was born May 8, 1937, to Mary Margaret Alcorn Faga and John Faga. He died Saturday, March 4, in Ames, following a brief illness. Danny was the best friend and husband of Kay, who caught his eye as he drove the 1957 Ford in which she rode during a homecoming parade. Words cannot express what a wonderful father Danny was to Kathy and Kerry. He was a father to son-in-laws Blake Wilson and Steve Martens; dearly loved grandfather of David (Amber), Alex and Stephen Wilson and Hayley and Mitchell Martens; proud great-grandfather of Carter Wilson; devoted step-son to Rena Faga; a close companion to mother-in-law Velma Hamilton; loving brother to Sylvia (Everett) Plowman and Monte (Cyndi) Lorenzen, and dear brother-in-law to Joan and Leland Acker, Sam and Yuvonne Hamilton, Rose and Les Gottlieb, and Bonnie (Carlos) Chase; fun and wise uncle to nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews; dear friend and mentor to so many whose lives he indelibly touched.

He was involved in multiple enterprises throughout his life. He owned and operated a John Deere dealership in Adair and Avoca for many years. He owned and managed farm property, ran a Dairy Sweet and a bed-and-breakfast, sold real estate and, after retirement, he became an avid potter. One of his proudest accomplishments was the co-founding of Creative Artists Studios of Ames (CASA), for which he served as president and received the 2005 Distinguished Board Member Award of the city of Ames. He cherished the relationships he built there. He never stood still; he brightened our lives with his unique and inventive projects. He enjoyed many activities with his grandchildren and nieces and nephews, including fishing, tinkering with cars, working on computers, and playing cribbage and other games. They loved spending time with him.

He was preceded in death by his only son, Stephen; his parents, Mary Margaret Alcorn Faga and John Faga; his father-in-law, Ira Hamilton; and one brother-in-law, Joseph Hamilton. Danny met life with energy, compassion, and creativity. We will miss him terribly.

Special thanks to the doctors and nurses on the fifth floor and ICCU at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames. We are deeply grateful to all who gave us their kind support during this time.

A memorial service in Ames will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, at Adams Funeral Home. A memorial service in Adair will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1107 Broad St. Private family burial is planned.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to to Creative Artists Studio of Ames (Danny Faga Memorial Fund), attn.: Greg Lamont, 130 South Sheldon Ave, Suite 107, Ames, IA 50014.

"See you in the funny papers, Grandpa."
