THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, March 7, 2006.

Glen was born Aug. 23, 1924, in Dexter to Cecil (Marshall) and Edgar "Ned" Drake. Glenn was one of six brothers and graduated from Dexter High School in 1942. He served as a machinist mate in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until the end of World War II.

He married the love of his life, Marilyn E. Herriott, April 4, 1948 They farmed in rural Dallas and Guthrie Counties and had three children of their own. They moved their family to rural Hartford in 1956 and stayed there until 1967, when they moved to rural Adel. He worked for Montgomery Ward in its farm store selling grain storage equipment until his retirement in 1979 and started his own business doing much the same thing. He enjoyed retirement in rural Adel observing the abundant wildlife in their area.

In mid-2005, he moved to Adel Acres Care Center to be near his wife, Marilyn.

He is survived by three children, Donald G. Drake (Helen) of rural Ames, Alan D. Drake of rural Adel and Susan L. McAtee of rural Earlham; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

He was a lifelong member of United Methodist Church, most recently in Waukee and went home to abide with Our Heavenly Father March 1.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday March 8, at Waukee United Methodist Church with funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 9, at Waukee United Methodist Church.Grave site services will not be held at this time.
