WHITAKER FAMILIES MEET IN ANNUAL REUNION
(from unidentified newspaper clipping)The third annual reunion of the descendants of the Samuel and Keziah Whitaker families was held at the home of Mrs. Laura Whitaker, in Maxwell, Sunday, July 23rd, with fifty-two present. The day was ideal for the event. The bounteous dinner from well filled baskets brought by members of the group was served cafeteria style from a long table, with plenty of ice tea, lemonade and hot coffee in evidence.
Following the dinner a short business meeting was held under supervision of Harold Whitaker of Mitchelville, president of the organization, and Mrs. Carrie Fair, secretary. The minutes of the last meeting were read by the latter. Mrs. Laura Whitaker, the oldest member present and the only remaining member of the first of the four generations represented, then gave a reading entitles, "Growing Old." This was followed by an interesting history of the clan given by Harold Whitaker, his own composition, The remainder of the afternoon was spent in visiting.
Mrs. Laura Whitaker, whose age is eighty-nine years, was the oldest member present and her great-great granddaughter, Carolyn Martha Fair, twenty-one month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Fair, of Des Moines, the youngest.
Of the fifty-two persons present there were two guests, eighteen belonging to the Deacon Whitaker generation, seven to the Thomas Whitaker generation and twenty-five to the Samuel Whitaker generation.
Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. O.F. Smith, Omaha, Neb.; Mrs. Ray Baker, Monroe, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Rollin Whitaker and son, Donald, owner’s Grove, Ill.; Mr. Frank L. Johnson, Ankeny; Mr. and Mrs. John W. Whitaker, Mr. And Mrs. Howard R. Whitaker and two children, Howard C. and Mary Ann and Mrs. Whitaker’s sister, Harold Whitaker and children, Wayne, Helen, Wilma, Jackie and Dale, all of Mitchellville; Mr. Curt W. Whitaker, Mr. and Mrs. O.O. Mullen and son, Carl, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Pearson, Mr. and Mrs. Ross L. Fair and two children, Irwin Donald, and Carolyn Martha, of Des Moines; Cecil and Verle Jones of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. Oliver G. Tichenor, Colo; Mr. and Mrs. George Tichenor and Carleton, Mrs. Mary Tichenor, Grant Whitaker, Miss Dorothy Baker, Mrs. Ida Belcher, Mrs. Clark Belcher and son, Rolland, of Nevada; Mrs. Marie Robison, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Longnecker, Mrs. Louisa Carter, Mrs. Emma Prime, Mrs. Laura Whitaker, Mrs. Carrie Fair, Veta and Don, of Maxwell.
Next year’s reunion will be held at the rural home of Mr. and Mrs. Tichenor, south of Nevada.
