Hannah Helland Honored on Her 90th Birthday

McCallsburg -- Mrs. Hannah Helland of McCallsburg was the guest of honor Wednesday on her 90th birthday.

An open house was planned for her by her daughter Mrs. Ivo Moon, assisted by Mrs. Sadie Sampson, Mrs. Isaac Strum, Mrs. Ivan Johnson, Mrs. Clarence Helland and Mrs. John Helland. Mrs. Marvin Malmin a granddaughter was in charge of the guest book. Approximately 95 neighbors, friends and relatives called during the day. The Rev. P. R. Heller read devotions and gave a short talk. The honoree received several birthday cakes. The one on the serving table was a lovely Bible birthday cake, decorated by Agnes Sujurson of Roland.

A buffet lunch was served from a lace covered table centered with a low bowl of red roses on a mirror.

Mrs. Helland, who has been a resident of the McCallsburg vicinity for over 62 years, is the mother of 13 children, eight of whom are living: Mrs. Sadie Sampson, Nevada, (Bertha) Mrs. Isaac Strum, Roland, (Lavina) Mrs. Ivan Johnson, Williams; Clarence Helland, Roland; (Blanche) Mrs. Ivo Moon of Skokie, Ill., Otis Helland, Spokane, Wash.; (Minerva) Mrs. Emera Krink, Enumclaw, Wash.; and John Helland, McCallsburg. There are 25 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren.
