James Danskin, eighth son of James and Lydia Dean Danskin was born at Chateaugay, New York 22 Nov 1847. At the age of 19, he joined his brothers, David and Thomas, who were working on the construction of the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad, that was being built across the state of Iowa. For seven years, he worked with the bridge gang. By the time his brothers, George and David had established homes on farms near Colo, Iowa, James saw possibilities in the Iowa prairie land and bought a quarter section near his brothers where he later located, and where his son lived.
James married Harriett Eliza Douglas of Chateaugay, NY June 24, 1874. They came to Iowa as pioneers, settled on the tract purchased, broke sod, built a home and it was here they lived and reared their family of five children. James died 3 Feb 1929.
