Albert was the son of Theopolis and Rosina Schneider Birchmier. Albert was born and raised in Davis County, Iowa. In the late 1900's and early 1920's, Albert would go back and forth between Davis County and Story County and worked as a hired man. On one of these trips he met Frances Backoff. In April of 1921, they were married and settled on a farm northeast of Maxwell. Frances came to the Maxwell area in the 1890's and lived in this area until her death in 1973. Their four sons, Joseph, Albert, James and Lawrence were raised in that area and graduated from Maxwell High School.

Joseph married Bonnie Clement in 1948. They have lived on a farm northeast of Maxwell for most of their married life. They have five children who are also graduates of Maxwell High School. Stephen, who married Jeanie Schauper, lives on a farm northeast of Maxwell with their two children: Shain and Shawna. Catherine lives in Nevada. Teresa married Ted Stoneberg and with their three children Billy, Tami and Joey live in Arcadia, Wisconsin. Ted is a Maxwell graduate and is now a practicing veterinarian. Mary Beth married Rod Maxwell. They have two children, Jason and Alisa, and live on a farm northeast of Maxwell. Diane lives in Ames.

Albert Lee and Carol Phelan married in 1960. Carol also was a Maxwell graduate. They live on a farm northeast of Maxwell and have five children. Bill is in the Army, Ann is going to Area XI, Brian, David and Danny are still at home and going to Maxwell School.

James married Mary Ida Martin in 1956. They live on a farm northeast of town. They have four children. Mark farms with his father, Julie and Jean are students at Iowa State and Michael is a Maxwell High student.

Lawrence married Virginia Randau in 1956. He is a veterinarian and with his wife and family live on a farm north of Mitchellville. They have five children. Loren married Barb Clement and they have two children Joshua and Jarod, Joel farms with his dad, Debbie goes to Area XI, and Aric and Sean go to school in Bondurant.
