John William Barrett was born in 1896 and died in 1967. He was born and raised near St. Joseph, Missouri. In 1920 he married Edith M. Garner and in 1926 they moved to Maxwell where he worked as a farmer. John's ancestors came from Scotland. The Barrett family are members of the Christian Church in Maxwell.

John and Edith's four children are Wilbur V., Arvilla, Louise and John M.

Wilbur V. Barrett of Maxwell married Ila M. Brown and they have one son Richard, who has two sons, Dirk and Joshua.

Arvilla Barrett married Kenneth Myers, now deceased, of Monroe, Their three children are Dan of Minnesota who has two sons, James and Nathan, David of Chicago who has one daughter, Jackie, and Debora Myers Breer of Pella. Arvilla is now married to Willliam Verwers of Pella.

Louise Barrett married Raymond Alleman, deceased. Their children are Dennis, deceased, Barbara who one one daughter Trista, and Douglas of Nevada.

John M. Barrett of Ames married Bonnie Cuddle of Jewell. Their three sons are Steve of Ames who has one daughter Jenny, Lynn of Ames who has one daughter Andrea, and Michael of Ames who has two sons, Joel and Nicholas.
