1931DR. ORREN W. WYATT is a native of Iowa, graduated in medicine in 1909 and for twenty years has practiced his profession at Manning, where in order to better care for his clientage he has erected and owns a splendidly equipped private hospital.
Doctor Wyatt was born in Story County, Iowa, March 11, 1880, son of William and Anna Ellen (Boston) Wyatt. His father was also born in Iowa, in 1858, and in 1886 moved to Nebraska, settling at Rushville and in 1890 at David City. In 1915 he returned to Manning, and lived there until his death on May 30, 1925. His widow was born in Illinois and is now living at Manning.
Dr. Orren W. Wyatt attended high school at David City, Nebraska, spent four years in the Nebraska Wesleyan University at Lincoln, where he received the Bachelor of Science degree and graduated in medicine from the University of Nebraska in 1909. In 1912 the Wesleyan University also gave him the A.B. degree. During 1909-10 he was an interne in the Methodist Hospital at Omaha, and he began private practice at Manning in association with his brother, Dr. Merlin B. Wyatt. They were in partnership until October 22, 1918, when Dr. Merlin Wyatt died. Since then Dr. Orren Wyatt has carried on an individual practice. In 1926 he began the erection of a hospital, which contains fifty-five rooms, is of fire proof construction and reinforce concrete and completely modern throughout. Doctor Wyatt for a number of years has specialized in physiotherapy and his hospital contains complete equipment of apparatus for treating cases that respond to such means. Doctor Wyatt also handles a great deal of work in surgery and has associated with him four other competent doctors as members of the staff, including his son, Merlin R.
Doctor Wyatt married, July 5, 1904, Miss Edna A. Smith, of Lincoln, Nebraska. She was born in Iowa and graduated from high school at Lincoln and also from Wesleyan University there. Doctor and Mrs. Wyatt have five children. Merlin R., the oldest, was born at Lincoln, Nebraska, December 14, 1905, and was educated in Nebraska Wesleyan University, graduating Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine in February, 1929, and then became an interne in the Methodist Hospital at Omaha, being there just twenty years after his father was interne in the same hospital. On February 1, 1930, he joined his father at Manning. The second child, Clara E., born at Omaha, November 3, 1908, graduated from the Manning High School in 1925 and graduated in 1930 from Nebraska Wesleyan University, with the B. Sc. degree. She married in July, 1930, Alvin Marens, and they live at Jefferson, Iowa, where Mr. Martens is a merchant. Vera, born at Manning, in 1910, graduated from high school in 1928 and is taking the nurses training course at the Methodist Hospital at Omaha, in the class of 1932. Edna L., born at Manning May 18, 1916, is in high school in the class of 1932, and Lester O., born September 24, 1917, is a student in the Manning High School in the class of 1934.
Doctor Wyatt was for several years president of the Carroll County Medical Association and is a member of the Iowa State, Missouri Valley and American Medical Associations, belongs to the Radiological Society of North America, the American College of Physio-Therapy and the American Physical Therapy Association. He also belongs to the Interstate Post Graduate Medical Association of America and the American Railway Association. He is a past master of the Masonic Lodge, belongs to the Mystic Shrine and Modern Woodmen of America, is a Baptist and a director of the Chamber of Commerce. Doctor Wyatt has made a real success of his career as a professional man and has also prospered in a business way. He had to work and pay for his own education and while in college he was employed during vacations in construction work. He owns and operates a 700 acre farm, specializing in Poland China hogs and high grade cattle.
