John H. Boston Family

John H. and Ella M. Boston were married in 1885. John was born in Round Grove, Ill., in 1863. He was the son of John A. and Sarah B. Boston who came to Story County in 1866 and settled on a farm south of McCallsburg. They were one of the pioneer settlers and first taxpayers of Warren Township.

Ella was born in 1866 to Charles W. and Eliza Hendrickson on a farm in Lincoln Township. She came to McCallsburg in 1881 and her parents ran a boarding house. This was the year the M. and St. L. railroad was built and they boarded the workmen.

Mr. and Mrs. Boston were engaged in many pioneer businesses - the postoffice, a general store, hotel and blacksmithing and also farming. He built the first cement sidewalks in McCallsburg and at one time, served as mayor of the town.

Glen Boston was born in McCallsburg Jan. 23, 1898 to John H. and Ella Hendrickson Boston. Lillie, his wife, the daughter of Fred V. and Ellen Huntrods, was born on a farm north of Nevada. Glen and Lillie were married in 1917 and were the parents of four children: Irene, Mrs. Wallace Loney, McCallsburg; Marvin Glen, Zearing and Merlin Dale and Shirley Mae, deceased.

They farmed until 1948 when they built their home and Mobil Service Station in McCallsburg. They operated the station and tank wagon service until 1953. He worked at the Roland Canning Factory, drove the school bus and served on the council.

Glen has been a member of the Masonic Lodge in Zearing since 1920. Both he and his wife, Lillie, are members of the McCallsburg Presbyterian Church.
