Thanks for the reply; I am excited that you may information that might ultimately help me understand my grandmother's family. I can send you a PDF file of Fanny Coon's obituary from May, 1897 Orange City Herald. The obit lists Isiaah Coon as a resident of Ireton on that date. Fanny married Peter Schaap, who was sheriff of Orange City. The obituary lists their children and I have more information about them. My grandmother, who was Fanny's youngest daughter Mamie, was born Dec 9, 1894 and died in 1980 or 81 (I need to check). All she could tell me about her mother was that she played the fiddle and may have had some Irish ancestry.
