Evidently Hull had an academy for aspiring teachers. I don’t believe it existed as such today.Commencement Day at the Academy.
On last Friday afternoon the commencement exercises of the Academy were held in the Armory of Company E. The room was crowded to its utmost capacity by a throng who felt deeply interested in the work of this institution. The stage was beautifully and artistically decorated with the colors of the two literary societies, and graduating class.
At the opening Cottrell Post Band played a lively air, after which Rev. Kaufman stepped forward and offered up a prayer of thanksgiving for the blessings and opportunities offered the youth of our land for higher attainments in the field of knowledge.
The next number was a beautiful rendition of “Charity” by a quartette of Missis Taggert, Hortense Tamplin, Ethel Hollister and Mrs. Jessie Crosser. This piece of vocal music was highly appreciated by the Audience as were all the others. Following came the oration of Louis D. Cook on the “present oppression of the Negro” after which Samuel N. Spring of Le Mars, delivered his oration entitled “our English Language” this was followed by a respite from dry prosy but interesting thought, and the time frilled by a beautiful duet by Miss Taggart and Tamplin entitled “li Anddio”.

The climax had been reached as these young people step out into the great highway of like with the motto of the class luring them on to a higher, grander and broader development.
