In Response To: Final Resting Place (Jim Brown)

I would strongly suspect that both Peter and his wife are buried in St. Joseph’s cemetery in Granville IA since their funerals were held from there.
Since no family was mentioned in the death articles they most likely did not have a gravestone assigned to their graves.
I would suggest contacting the St. Jospeh’s Catholic Church at Grandville for the cemetery records if there is an entry for them. I would suggest sending a donation to get a faster response.
Below are the obituaries carried in the Alton Democrat.

Wilma J. Vande Berg

From the Alton Democrat of Dec 16, 1899 p.24
Peter Traufler one of Granville's first settlers died Tuesday morning of a complication of heart and kidney troubles. Mr. Traufler had not been
feeling well for about three weeks prior to his death and on Thanksgiving day was induced to remain in bed. From that time he grew steadily worse.
Mr. Traufler was born in Luxemburg, Germany, in 1866, leaving his native country when yet a boy for the new world, where he learned the blacksmith trade. He was united in marriage to Kate Earnester in Minnesota and then moved to Remsen, Iowa, where he engaged in the blacksmithing business. Becoming dissatisfied he removed to Granville, where he made many friends and succeeded in saving up a nice little fortune by honest dealings and hard work at his trade.
Losing his wife about a year and a half ago he married for the second time some three months ago, the lady being Mrs, Gertrude Lanbenthal of Northridgeville, Ohio. Only the devoted wife survives him. The funeral was held Thursday morning from St. Joseph's Catholic church and was largely attended.

(See the obit of his wife Mrs. Peter Traufler 1861-1898 Maiden name Ernster or Earnester. From the Sioux County death records Peter Traufler age 43 year 9 mo. died Dec. 12, 1899.)

From the Alton Democrat of Nov 26, 1898 .
Death of Mrs. Peter Traufler.
Mrs. Peter Traufler died at her home in Granville last Tuesday, after a long and painful illness, at the age of thirty-seven years. She was born at Luxemburg, Dubuque county IA, where she resided with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Ernster, until January 11, 1888, when she was untied in marriage with Mr. Traufler. they then came to the western part of the state and located in Remsen and four years later removed to Granville, their present home. Being the village blacksmith Mr. Traufler has a wide circle of friends and acquaintances, who will sympathize with him in his deep sorrow.
Deceased was a devout Christian and was loved and respected by all who knew her.
The funeral was held from the Catholic church in Granville, Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Father Stromberg and was very largely attended.
