Hello Gail:
If you go to our newspaper site http://siouxcounty.newspaperarchive.com - go to advanced - put 1937 in the year boxes on left and right - put Fred Koch in the exact phrase you should come up with his obituary in the Hawarden Indepedent of Jan 14, 1937. (click on the top blue heading of the paper) The obit states he was buried at Akron, Plymouth county Ia. So am wondering if his wife was buried there also. It sounds like - from his obit that he lived in Union County SD until his move to Chatsworth IA in 1907. It states in his obit that his wife died 21 years prior to 1937 so that would be in the area of 1916. Their children are mentioned in the obituary of Fred. It may be worth trying to find their descendants to see if the death of Margaret Helmick Koch is recorded. Also by contacting the sexton of the Akron cemetery you may be able to tell if she is buried there with her husband. I have checked the existing Sioux county death records from 1916-1920 and did not see an entry for Margaret Koch. That doesn't mean she didn't died at Chatsworth in Logan Sioux County as many deaths did not get recorded. I see in the Chatsworth town fact books we have at the library the name of Fred Koch is in the index. I will check that out and report back if there is more info in the booklet. I hope I have given you some clues. Wilma J. Vande Berg
