I am answering your Shimer query.
I have found in the old Rock Valley cemetery records the following information.
Samule Shimer born Apr. 22, 1806 died May, 22, 1889. American, let 2, block 42 burial date 5-28-1889. Died of a stroke. Died at E. D. Woods.
The born date listed above does not come our with the information in the Sioux County Cemetery headstone list as it lists Samuel as 93 yrs 4 months and 22 days. (the 93 could be a typo as if he was born in 1806 he would have been 83)
In the Sioux County Cemetery Index there are five Shimers- two from Rock Vally and the rest from Ireton area- listed as can be seen on this site.
Rock Valley does not have any newspapers surviving that date back to the time of either Nancy or Samuel's deaths.
I will check the Hawarden paper in case it was listed there.
They are not listed in the 1880 census of Sioux County. I will check the 1885 State census.
I will check for any early marriages of Shimers for parent's names.
www.familysearch.com did come up with a Samuel Shimer born about 1801 married to a Nancy Beer. they had a son Jessie. Am I on the right track.
Can you tell me anything else about them, Samuel and Nancy. Who were their parents and children?
