Martin Schaefer Taken By Death
A life long resident of Turner county, Martin Schaefer, 65, Monroe businessman, passed away on June 25, at 7:30 p.m. at a Sioux Falls hospital. The cause of his death was due to a heart ailment. He had been ill for the past 47 days.
He was born June 24, 1886 in Lennox, S. D., son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry A. Schaefer, both deceased. On January 31, 1912 (actually January 3), he was married to Gertrude Heemstra at Monroe, S. D.
Next of kin include Arend, Chris, Albert, Mrs. George Schulte (Flora), Mrs. Anna Westfall of Monroe, Henry of Gary, S.D., John of Canby, Minn., Mrs. Ida Wieman, Yankton, George and Fred of Sioux Falls, and daughter Annabell Dorothy.
He spent his entire life farming, except for seven years while in the hardware business in Monroe. He was a member of the First Reformed Church.
Final rites were held June 28, at Monroe with Rev. John Ettema officiating.
Pall bearers were Al Wieman, H. B. Herlyn, Burl Spears, Herman Arends, John Loff, Tom Merigan.
