K. H. Breuer
We had just gone to press last week, when word was brought to the Index office that Herman Breuer, northeast of town had died. The following handed in by a dear friend of the deceased gives the particulars.
In Memoriam
Our beloved brother in Christ, Karl Herman Breuer son of Johan August Breuer and wife was born on the 25th day of January 1879 in Sheridan township, Sioux County, Iowa. He was baptized by Rev. Bernhard Marr, in the Evangelical Lutheran Church, on the 23rd day of February, 1879 with Henry Mahler, Herman Schuett and Louis Schuett as sponsors. He grew up to manhood in this county and was confirmed in the same church in which he had been baptized by Rev. W. Baetke. The 26th day of March 1893. Three years ago he was united in marriage with Miss Margaretha Schuett and to them; two children were born--August Claus and Elisa Pauline--who with the wife mourn a dear, kind and indulgent father, husband, son and brother. The deceased took sick March 23. The disease being typhoid fever and although of a strong constitution he grew rapidly weaker till the 17th of April when pneumonia set in and consumed his remaining strength.
On Easter Monday he with family partook of the Lord's Supper which strengthened him in his faith and hope for the last fight. Soon after he became delirious—there was no rest, no sleep and on the 23rd day of April, the end came calmly, and he died in the love of Jesus at 11 a. m.
On the evening before his death consciousness returned and we had an hour full of grace with him, for as he was by our Lord allowed to again understand the work of God read and the prayers spoken for and with him, and when asked if he believed in the love of Christ toward him," he answered, 'O, if Jesus did not love us we would parish."
The remains were interred, Sunday, service being held both at the home and at the church, Rev. Paul J. Bunge officiating, who took for his text , Hebrews, 4, 9-11, and spoke about the rest which remains to the people of God.
Hundreds of relatives and friends ???? their regards for the departed by attending the last sad rites and all joined in extending sincere sympathy to the bereaved family and relatives.
His body is now resting in the beautiful cemetery of the St. Paul's
Evangelical Lutheran church in Lincoln Township, and await for the glorious resurrection morn.
