Our beloved sister in Christ, Mrs. Anna Katherina Breuer, ner Schroeder, was born on the 24th day of March, 1851, at Langenstrasse, near Canderberge, Kreis, Neuhaus, in Hanover, Germany. She was the daughter of Mr. Henry Schroeder and his wife Alcia Margaretha nee K???. She was baptized on the 6th of April, 1851 and confirmed in the Evang. Lutheran Church the 13th day of April 1865 at Caderberge by Rev. Willerner who used the text "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.
The deceased came to the United States when she was 21 years of age and resided at Aleghany City Penn. While there she was married to John August Breuer on the 31st day of March 1875. In a short time, they went to Frankstone where they lived about a year, coming to North western Iowa in the Spring of 1877—over 33 years ago---and therefore we can rank her as one of the pioneers and early settlers of Sioux
County. She had been the mother of eight Children—three daughters and one son dying in their infancy -David Christian, who was killed by a kick from a horse in 1894, at the age of 10 years. Karl Herman, who died two years ago, and John Henry and Paul Friedrich.
Our sister and her husband were among the founders of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran congregation northeast of Hull and was an honored memher of the same at the time of her death. She loved the word and house of God and made good use of the preaching of the gospel and the Lord's sacrament.
She had always been a strong and healthy woman—never having been seriously sick until within the past year. During last winter a kidney trouble set in, which finally developed into dropsy, and this, in connection with heart trouble. Caused her demise. The local pbysicians—and and specialist at Sioux City — did all in their power, but to no avail. On the 9th of October she partook of the Lord's supper with her family; Monday and Tuesday she felt comfortable. Thursday weakness and pain increased. Friday the pain was almost unbearable and she prayed: "My God, help me, the cup is very hard to drink!" after which she became quieter, and calmly passed away at 12:20 a. m. Saturday, aged 59 years 6 months and 22 days.
She leaves a loving husband, two sons, 2 daughter-in-laws, 6 grandchildren and many relatives and friends to mourn the taking away of a good woman.
