John Koerselman, age 79 of George, IA, passed away on May 26, 2024, at Sibley Nursing and Rehab Center in Sibley, IA.

Visitation with the family present will be Thursday, May 30, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2024, at Hope Reformed Church in George, IA with Rev. Steven De Haan officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George, IA.

John William Koerselman was born October 30, 1944, at his parents' home at Matlock, IA, the son of John and Gertrude (Rikkers) Koerselman. He grew up at Matlock and graduated from Sheldon High School and continued his education at Omaha Technical School. He worked for his uncle, Gerrit at Hy-Way Body Shop for a year before starting to farm. He was married to Lois Behrens for fourteen years and they had three children, Rick, Jeff and Stacey. On August 19, 1988, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Groenwold/Storm at Hope Reformed Church at George, IA. John and Cheryl made their home on John’s farm until they retired and moved to George. He was a past member at Salem Reformed where he served as a Deacon and the Sunday School Superintendent and a current member at Hope Reformed Church at George. He also had served in the past on the Little Rock Community School District’s board of directors. He enjoyed farming and taking care of the cows. As his health and memory faded, he still would talk about his cows. In May of 2023 he became a resident of the Sibley Nursing and Rehab Center where he died this past Sunday, May 26, 2024, at the age of seventy-nine.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl of George; their children, Rick Koerselman (special friend, Deanna) of Little Rock, IA; Jeff (Shawn) Koerselman of Little Rock, IA; Stacey DeJong of Sioux Falls, SD; Derek (Melissa) Storm of George, IA; Jeremy Storm of George, IA; Corey (Amanda) Storm of George, IA sixteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; his siblings, Twila (Darrell) DeGroot of Sheldon, IA; Laverne (Carol) Koerselman of George, IA and Gerald DeKruif of Logan, IA; his brothers-in-law; Merle (Patty) Gronewold of George, IA; and sister-in-law, Barb (Mike) Modder of George, IA; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gertrude; sister, Fonda DeKruif and grandson, Peyton DeJong.
