Raymond Hoops, 94, of Hawarden, Iowa, formerly of rural Ireton, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. Reverend Trish Underberg from St. John Lutheran Church – Preston Township, rural Akron, Iowa, will officiate. Burial with military honors provided by the Heeren-McHale-Wilkens American Legion Post 724 of Brunsville will follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time and following the services during a time of lunch and fellowship at the funeral home. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

Raymond Louis Hoops, the son of Herman and Amanda (Pieper) Hoops, was born on October 16, 1929, in Cherokee, Iowa. He grew up in Galva, Iowa, where he attended school.

He joined the United States Army in 1950. He served in the 18th Infantry Regiment. Following his honorable discharge in 1952, he returned to Galva and joined the family trucking business with his father and brother. He also trucked for DeKalb Seed in Storm Lake, Iowa.

He was united in marriage to Madonna Kapfer on June 30, 1956, in Akron, Iowa. They lived in Galva for 10 years before moving to a farm in Plymouth County, Iowa, near Ireton. He continued delivering seed and also farmed for over 40 years. After their retirement, they moved to Hawarden, Iowa.

Raymond enjoyed riding motorcycles and flying planes. He also enjoyed washing, waxing, and polishing trucks, vehicles, and tractors. He and Madonna did a lot of traveling over the years.

Survivors include his wife, Madonna; a son: Collin (Diane) Hoops of rural Ireton, IA; two daughters: Krista (Larry) Burton of Babcock Ranch, FL, and Jill Charpia of Dallas, TX; two grandchildren: Kassidi Burton and Kaitlyn Burton; two step grandchildren: Shelby Schmitt and Breanne Schmitt; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers: Marvin, Harold, and Don Hoops; and 2 sisters: Golda Bithel and Gloria Leonard.
