For John Deiters

FIRST S.C. SERVICEMAN TO BE

LAID TO REST HERE

The remains of John Deiters, member of Naval Reserve arrived in Sioux Center by train Tuesday morning escorted by another member of the U.S. Navy, E.E. Hamilton. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Mrs. H. Deiters home with the Sheldon State Guard Firing Squad and Color Guard performing Military Honors for the deceased. Burial took place in the family plot here.

Reports from Naval Hospital Headquarters showed that death occurred from illness and was strictly in the line of duty. He was enroute from Chicago Recruiting station at Farragut, Idaho, when he became ill and his death occured at Libby, Montana.

Flags were placed at half mast in the business district in observation of the last rites for the first Sioux Center serviceman to be laid to rest in the local cemetery.

Members of the local American Legion Post acted as pall bearers.

Members of the family who came home for the funeral included Pvt. Walt Hughes stationed at Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. Walt Hughes and Stevena Deiters of Grand Rapids, Mich., Larry Deiters of Minneapolis and Sgt. Herman Deiters of Camp Savage, Minn.

Obituary

John Deiters AS-USNR, son of Mrs. H. Deiters was born in Sioux Center, Iowa on January 11, 1908. He attended the local public schools and then attended Electrical Engineering school in Milwaukee, Wisc. Upon graduation accepted employment with the Iowa Public Service in Storm Lake, Iowa. He was married to Ella Manchester of Storm Lake on December 1st, 1933.

For the past two years John has been employed in Chicago until his enlistment in the navy on August 19, 1943.

He is survived by his wife and mother, four brothers and six sisters.
