Mr. Marvin Van Den Top, age 60, of Boyden, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at his home near Boyden.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Wednesday, February 21, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, at the Calvary Protestant Reformed Church in Hull. A prayer service will take place on Thursday, February 22, at 10:00am, at the church, followed by interment at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. There will be a memorial service on Thursday, at 11:00am, at the church with the Rev. Allen Brummel officiating. The Oolman Funeral Home in Hull is in charge of arrangements.

Marvin Jay was born on May 9, 1963, in Rock Rapids, the son of John and Gertrude (Van Bemmel) Van Den Top. He was raised on a farm east of Doon and attended the Northwest Iowa Protestant Reformed Elementary School in Doon. He graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull before enrolling at Western Iowa Technical College in Sioux City.

On September 10, 1982, he was united in marriage to LaDonna Mae Hoksbergen in Hull. They made their home in Hull until 1985, when they moved to their current home on a farm between Hull and Boyden. For all of his adult life, Marv was a farmer and pork producer and he also worked as an electrician and found much joy in hauling grain and fertilizer in his red Pete.

Marv was a charter member of the Calvary Protestant Reformed Church in Hull, where he served as an elder. He was actively involved in the local community and served on many boards, most recently the Iowa Pork Board. In addition to farming, he also enjoyed riding motorcycle, traveling, and spending time with his family.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of more than 41 years, LaDonna, of Boyden; five children and their families, Jessica and Kyle Lems, of Doon, and their children, Maya, Owen, and Kaleb; Krista and Tyler Van Der Brink, of Doon, and their children, Brody, Blake, Beau, and Billy; Kelsey and Jack Ver Burg, of Rock Valley, and their children, Jay, Ben, and Penny; Trevor and Rachel Van Den Top, of Rapid City, South Dakota; and Vanessa and Justin Kooima, of Sheldon, and their children, Sadie and Reggie with a third one on the way; his mother, Gertrude Van Den Top, of Hull; two sisters and their husbands, Viola and Alan De Boer, of Doon; and Lavonne and Steve Abma, of Rock Valley; parents-in-law, Henry and Jane Hoksbergen, of Hull; four sisters-in-law and their husbands, Lorna and Todd Goeldner, of Urbandale; Bonnie and Kevin Van Engen, of Hull; Lisa and Dave De Boer, of Boyden; and Shawn and Josh Visser, of Byron Center, Michigan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Van Den Top.

Memorials may be given to the area Christian School of your choice.
