Mrs. Elizabeth Dykstra, age 95, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Sunday, February 18, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. A prayer service will take place on Monday, February 19, at 9:30am, at the funeral home, followed by interment at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a memorial service on Monday, at 10:30am, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Jordan Helming officiating.

Elizabeth was born on September 10, 1928, in Le Mars, the daughter of William and Gertie (Van Veldhuizen) Lammers. She grew up in several Northwest Iowa communities and attended country school before graduating from the Sheldon High School.

On March 24, 1950, she was united in marriage to James Dykstra in Sheldon. They farmed near Hospers until 1966, when they moved into town. Three years later they moved to Orange City, where in addition to being a wife and mother, Liz worked at K-Products for many years. She later worked at a grocery store in Orange City and enjoyed getting to know the store’s regular customers. Jim passed away on June 24, 2017, in Orange City, after more than 67 years of marriage.

Mrs. Dykstra was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. She liked to sew and crochet and was an avid reader. She loved being outdoors doing yard work, taking care of her garden, and riding motorcycle with Jim. She and Jim were also able to enjoy many winters together in Texas over the years.

Survivors include her four children, Jerry Dykstra, and his wife, Chris, of Orange City; Kathy, and her husband, Wes Boogerd, of Hull; and Lorie, and her husband, Tim Dietschy; and Mark Dykstra, all of Orange City; eleven grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; a sister, Fannie Menning, of Sioux Center; Jim’s siblings, Henry Dykstra, and his wife, Joyce, of Orange City; Hilda Holtrop, of Sheldon; and Betty Cooper, of Orange City; and Jim’s sister-in-law, Florence Dykstra, of Sheldon; along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Boogerd; a sister and her husband, Hermina and Max McGinnis; two brothers and their wives, William and Lucille Lammers; and Gerrit and Karen Lammers; a brother-in-law, Norman Menning; Jim’s siblings, Gerrit Dykstra, and his wife, Julia; Dick Dykstra; Don Dykstra, and his wife, Sharene; Wilma, and her husband, Simon De Boer; and Jessie, and her husband, Walt Vander Plaats; and two of Jim’s brothers-in-law, Herman Cooper and John Holtrop.

Memorials will be given to Hope Haven Wheelchair Ministries.
