Randy was born in Hawarden, Iowa, on March 27, 1958, and was the lastborn of three children. Randy grew up on a farm in rural Akron, where he also graduated from high school. He met the love of his life, Charlene, whom he married at the age of 18 in 1976. In the same year, Randy and Charlene welcomed their firstborn, Randalyn (Fairbanks), into the world, followed by Adam in 1979 and Joshua in 1981.

In the early 1980s, Randy owned and operated “Frerichs Auto and Tire Service” in Westfield, Iowa, followed, throughout the years, by careers in the concrete industry and food manufacturing. Randy and Charlene eventually purchased the family farm where Randy began doing what he loved most – farming his own land. Randy later purchased a power-washing business and a large hog production site which he operated for several years. In addition to his work in agriculture, Randy eventually held a few part-time jobs, most recently as a custodian at Akron-Westfield School, which he absolutely loved.

Randy was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He took great pride in all six of his beloved grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sporting and other school events. Randy was an FFA alumni and a proud sponsor of his grandson’s baseball team, the Sioux City Futures. He had a passion for music and was a talented singer, having taught himself to play the guitar and even writing some songs of his own. Randy was a spiritual man who raised his children in a loving, Christian home, for which they are eternally grateful. He was a hard worker with a heart for others, always willing to help his children, grandchildren, and whomever else was in need. Randy’s sense of humor and love of laughter will certainly be missed by many. He was a talented bowler, which he enjoyed doing tremendously. Randy attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Akron in his youth, then the Church of Christ in Akron and Le Mars, and finally the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Sioux City and Sioux Falls. He was a baptized believer in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Ella Frerichs, his brother, Gerald Frerichs, his sister, Patricia Hill, and his cousin, Donald Feauto.

Randy is survived by his wife, Charlene Frerichs; daughter and son-in-law Randalyn and Mike Fairbanks; son, Adam Frerichs; son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Brittany Jo Frerichs; grandchildren, Tyson, Mikenna, Greg, Melissa, Kaberlee, and Oliver; his mother-in-law, Marlis Brewer; sisters-in-law, Mary Jean Frerichs, Linda (Nicky) Green, Charlotte Fodness (Randy Henderson), and LeAnn (Marv) Kreger; brothers in law, John Hill, Eugene Brewer and Glenn Brewer; his “brothers from another mother,” Jim, Kevin, and Bob Feauto; and many others, including nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
