Rock Valley, IA: Elizabeth “Betty” Rozeboom, 93, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Whispering Heights of Rock Valley. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 19, at 2:00 PM at the Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Rock Valley with Rev. J.J. Witvoet officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Public viewing with no family present will be held Monday, December 18, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley.

Memorials may be directed to the Netherlands Reformed Christian School. Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley is assisting the family with arrangements.

Elizabeth Rozeboom, daughter of Herman and Helena (Spaans) Zomer, Sr., was born August 24, 1930, at Corsica, South Dakota. Betty first worked for mothers who went to the hospital to have babies. She then moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where she worked at a factory for 4 years. After returning to Corsica, she worked for 11 years at a nursing home.

On June 12, 1974, Betty was united in marriage with Dick G. Rozeboom. The couple lived near Fairview, South Dakota for 4 years before moving to Lynden, Washington for 4 years. The couple then moved back to South Dakota and lived south of Canton where they farmed. Dick died February 27, 1998.

After Dick’s death, Betty worked as a custodian at the Netherlands Reformed Christian School. She also volunteered at the school as a Foster Grandparent from 2000-2015. She moved to Whispering Heights in 2018 and loved walking the halls and making friends. Betty looked forward to time with her family and friends and would also enjoy a game of dominos from time to time.

Betty is survived by her children, Gerrit (Evonne) Rozeboom of St. Joe, Arkansas, Cora (Arlan) Kooima of Canton, South Dakota, Rick (Karla) Rozeboom of Fairview, South Dakota, and Daryl (Kath) Rozeboom of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; daughter-in-law, Arlys Rozeboom of Doon, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Jeane Zomer, Joane Zomer, and Marlene Zomer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Helena Zomer, Sr.; husband, Dick; son, Anthony “Tony” Rozeboom; grandson, Michael Kooima; sisters, Hermina Rozeboom and Nellie Rozeboom; and brothers, Herman Zomer Jr., Cornie Zomer, and Clarence Zomer.
