Rock Valley, IA: Marie Klasina Roozenboom, 101, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Sioux Center Health in Sioux Center, Iowa. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 20, at 2:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley with Rev. J.J. Witvoet officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Public viewing with no family present will be held Tuesday, December 19, from 5:30-7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Marie Klasina Roozenboom, daughter of Herman and Albertje “Bertha” (DeGraaf) Thomassen, was born June 11, 1922. She grew up near Fairview, South Dakota and attended country school through the 8th grade. As a young woman, Marie worked for several different folks in the Fairview area.

On March 2, 1944, Marie was united in marriage with D. Gerrit Roozenboom. To this union, one child was born, Gary Roozenboom. The couple farmed until Gerrit’s death in 1973. In 1979, Marie moved to Rock Valley, Iowa. In 2021, at the age of 99, Marie moved to Pleasant Acres in Hull, Iowa and later moved to Crown Pointe Estates in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Marie spent several years cleaning the farmer’s elevator in Rock Valley. She enjoyed traveling and visited 48 states. Marie was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation.

She is survived by her son, Gary Roozenboom of Rock Valley. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Bertha Thomassen; husband, D. Gerrit Roozenboom; 3 sisters-in-law, Gertrude Middendorp, Grace Van Middendorp, and Gertie Van Grootheest; and 2 brothers-in-law, William Roozenboom and John Roozenboom.
