Mrs. Ramona Wiersema, age 92, of Orange City, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Friday, November 10, from 12:30pm to 1:30pm, at the American Reformed Church in Orange City. There will be a funeral service on Friday, at 2pm, at the church with the Rev. Dr. Verlyn Boone officiating. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City is in charge of arrangements.

Ramona Mae was born on April 9, 1931, on her family’s farm in rural Ireton, the daughter of Tony and Tena (Rindels) Riepma. She grew up on the farm and attended country school. Throughout her childhood, her family moved to South Dakota, Colorado, and eventually settled in California.

On August 16, 1956, “Mona” was united in marriage to Marvin Wiersema in California. After a few years in California, they returned to Northwest Iowa and made their home on a farm outside Orange City. In addition to being a wife and a mother, she worked at K-Products in Orange City, helped Marvin on the farm, and found time to pursue her GED. Marvin passed away on December 9, 1992, in Orange City, after more than 36 years of marriage. In 2016, Mona moved into the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community, and in 2021, she became a resident of the Prairie Ridge Care Center, both in Orange City.

Mrs. Wiersema was a member of the American Reformed Church, in Orange City, where she participated in many Bible studies. She loved to travel and play card games and in earlier years, she enjoyed going bowling and playing golf.

Survivors include her daughter and her husband, Lisa and Roger Schoeberlein, of Polk City; four grandchildren, Amber, and her husband, David Pitts, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Tonia Schmillen, and her partner, Dan Hauser; and Jonathan Schneider, and his wife, Sara, all of Marcus; and Nerissa, and her husband, Adam Walker, of Ankeny; two step-granddaughters, Kristen Schoeberlein, and her partner, Brian Donovan; and Brenda, and her husband, Aaron Yetmar, all of Farnhamville; thirteen great-grandchildren, Coleton, Rylee, Tyler, and Olivia Pitts; Michael, John, Cody, and Jacob Schmillen; Ella, Isaac and Anna Schneider; and Evelyn and Violet Walker; and three step-great-grandchildren, Hadlee and Kennedy Donovan; and Cecilia Yetmar; two sisters, Linda Van Otterloo, of Orange City, and Mary Lou, and her husband, Arie Noteboom, of Alton; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she preceded in death by two step-fathers, Martin Vander Meer and Steve Van Otterloo; a grandson-in-law, Matt Schmillen; two brothers and their wives, Edward and Nellie Riepma and Bernard and Annetta Riepma; a step-sister, Harriet Fedders; and two step-brothers, Marvin Vander Meer and Norm Van Otterloo.

Memorials will be given to the family for future designation.
