Mr. Herbert Bruxvoort, age 87, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Monday, November 6, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, November 7, at 10:30am, at the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Cody Statema officiating. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

Herbert Glen was born on September 15, 1936, in Orange City, one of seven children born to Gerrit and Ollie (Starkenburg) Bruxvoort. He was raised on a farm southeast of Orange City and attended country school, the Orange City Christian School, and the Northwestern Classical Academy.

On September 7, 1956, he was united in marriage to Joan Carol Dolieslager at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. They first made their home in Armstrong before moving to Hospers and then returning to Orange City in 1958.

Herb was a hardworking man, having worked construction as a brick layer in earlier years. He drove truck for Pals Transfer in Orange City and for American Freight for 31 years. During that time, he was a member of the Teamsters Union. He later worked as part of the maintenance crew at the Sioux County Courthouse and at Northwestern College, in Orange City. He looked forward to summer weekends at Cutty’s in Okoboji, where he served on the board of directors, and wintering in Texas, which he and Joan did for 22 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, and camping.

Mr. Bruxvoort was a member of the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Orange City, where he served as a deacon.

Survivors include his wife of more than 67 years, Joan, of Orange City; four children, Gary Bruxvoort, and his wife, Kathy, of Swisher; Sandy Cooper, of Le Mars; Dave Bruxvoort, of Sheldon; and Rob Bruxvoort, and his wife, Brenda, of Orange City; twelve grandchildren, Kris, and her husband, Greg Dreckman; Nikki, and her husband, Sean Perkins; Jill, and her husband, Derek Klein; Dani, and her husband, Nick Rolling; Allan Bruxvoort; Sheila Bruxvoort; Shelly Bruxvoort; Katie, and her husband, Luke Folken; Justin Hoppe, and his wife, Lynette; Breann, and her husband, Eric Lundblad; Riley Bruxvoort, and his wife, Jenny; and Mallorie, and her husband, Kurt Yeske; 27 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Wes Bruxvoort; Orv Bruxvoort, and his wife, Joyce; Gordon Bruxvoort, and his wife, Pat; and Don Bruxvoort, and his wife, Sherri; a sister, Carol Altena; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Dolieslager; and Nancy, and her husband, Bob Van Zee.

In addition to his parents and parents-in-law, Gerrit and Tena Dolieslager, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Tom Cooper; three great-grandchildren, Matthew Dreckman, Colby Klein, and Austin Folken; two sisters, Muriel, and her husband, Pete Ravestein; and Judy Sellers; two brothers-in-law, Don Altena and Darrell Dolieslager; and two sisters-in-law, Nelva Van Ravenswaay and Audrey Bruxvoort.

Memorials will be given to the family for future designation.
