Louis Oloff Dies at Age of 88 years
Louis Oloff died at 6 o'clock Monday, March 5th, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Arthur Kallsen, 7 1/2 miles south of Ireton in Preston township, Plymouth county, having reached the good old age of 88 years, 2 months and 13 days.
He was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, Dec. 20, 1845. Coming to this country he located at Mauch Chunk, Pa., where he was employed in car shops and coal mines. Later he came to Cedar Rapids where he farmed for seven years and he then came to Preston township Plymouth county, where he farmed until coming to Ireton to live about 30 years ago.He lived here until last October when he went to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Kallsen. he was married at Mauch Chunk, PA, Feb 23, 1872, to Minnie Richert. four children were born to this happy union: L.C. Oloff of Ireton: F. H. Oloff of Craig; Mrs. Arthur Kallsen of Struble, and Mrs. J. P. Riter, deceased. His wife preceded him in death Dec 4, 1930. Mr Oloff was loved by all who knew him. he was a man who knew what hardships and labor meant. his training was of the kind that stood him well in those years when it took real manhood to meet and overcome obstacles. he was devoted to his family, to his friends and neighbors. he was a loyal and splendid citizen who will be missed by all who knew him. He was loyal to church and its Christian principles.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Kallsen home at 1#0 and from the Lutheran church in Craig at 2:00, with Rev. Wm. Zibell in charge. Burial was made in the Craig Cemetery beside the resting lace of his wife. The church was crowded with relatives and friends who came to pay their last respects to the departed.
