Mrs. Marlene Rons, age 87, of Orange City, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at the Orange City Area Health System.

There will be a graveside service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City at a later date. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City is in charge of arrangements.

Marlene Jane was born on December 22, 1935, in Alton, one of three children born to Andrew W. and Eva Gertrude (Bloemendaal) Oordt. She was raised in Orange City and graduated from the Orange City Public School in 1953. She then attended the Northwestern Junior College in Orange City for two years, earning her teaching certificate.

She was united in marriage to Denis Gene Rons on November 16, 1956, at the Second Reformed Church in Orange City. The couple first made their home in Sioux Center and Marlene taught at the Sioux Center Public School. In 1960, they moved to Arizona and she taught at the Phoenix Christian School and later at the Tempe Public School. In 1968, they returned to Northwest Iowa and established Rons Motor Sales, a Ford and Mercury dealership in Orange City.

Mrs. Rons was currently a member of the American Reformed Church in Orange City. She had previously been a member of the Orange City Public Library Board, the Tulip Festival Queens Committee, the Authentic Dutch Costume Project, the Orange City Tree Board, and a charter member of the Dutch Heritage Boosters.

Marlene liked cooking, working in her garden, and listening to Iowa Public Radio. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, and spending time with family.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Timothy Jay and Tammy (Webster) Rons, of Ames; a sister and her husband, Shirley and Roy Haenfler, of Scottsdale, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister and her husband, Alma and Donald Ford.

Memorials will be given to the American Reformed Church or Iowa Public Radio.
