Malakai Daniel Hoekstra was born in Sioux Falls, on July 30, 2023. He was welcomed into the world by his loving family. Kai’s positive reaction to their touch and to the music they played, as well as the times they were able to swaddle him in their arms, will forever be remembered by those that loved him dearly. He impacted everyone who came into his room at the NICU at Sanford in Sioux Falls. His time on earth was cut too short, but he is being held by our Savior Jesus Christ in eternity and singing songs with the angels and all those who have gone before.

Those grateful for their time with Kai include his parents, Ross Daniel and Stacy Lynn (Van Regenmorter) Hoekstra, and his brother, Avett, and sister, Zola, all of Orange City; his grandparents, Kevin and Sandy Hoekstra and Del and Sue Van Regenmorter, all of Sioux Center; his aunts and uncles, Rachael and Tim Vande Hoef and Ranae and Tom Draayer, all of Sioux Center; Ryan and Amy Hoekstra, of Norton Shores, Michigan; Jen and Marcus Warolin, of Bellingham, Washington; Steph and Dan Van Ruler, of Sioux Center; Tim Van Regenmorter, of Lynden, Washington; Tricia Van Regenmorter, of Sioux Center; and Justin and Taylor Van Regenmorter, of Chicago, Illinois; a great-grandmother, Evelyn Bakker, of Sioux Center; as well as numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Creston and Lucille Hoekstra; Bernard Bakker; Dick and Pearl Van Regenmorter; and Norm and Alberta Horstman.

Memorials will be given to the Hoekstra family for future designation.
