Mrs. Florence Horstman, age 75, of Hull, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023, at the Crown Pointe Estates in Sioux Center.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Friday, August 11, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull. A prayer service will take place on Saturday, August 12, at 10:00am, at the funeral home, followed by interment at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, at 11:00am, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. Timothy Ouwinga officiating.

Florence Elaine was born on June 26, 1948, in Doon, the daughter of Bert and Bernice (Hoekstra) Van Maanen. She was the oldest of seven children raised on the family’s farm near Doon, where she attended the Doon Christian School before graduating from Western Christian High School in Hull in 1966.

On December 28, 1966, she was united in marriage to Gary Leon Horstman at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. They made their home and raised their four children in Hull. After her children were born, Florence earned her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Northwest Iowa Technical College in Sheldon. She was proud to be a nurse and worked at nursing homes in Rock Rapids and Rock Valley, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital, and at Bethany Home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In retirement, Florence and Gary were able to spend extended amounts of time in Arizona together. She and Gary moved from Hull to Sioux Falls in 2012, and in September of 2022, they became residents of Crown Pointe Estates in Sioux Center.

Florence was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, cross stitching, and tending to her many flowers as well as attending her grandchildren’s many extracurricular activities.

Survivors include her husband of more than 56 years, Gary, of Sioux Center; four children and their families, Curtis and Robbyn Horstman, of West Plains, Missouri, and their children, Abbigail, Sara, and Benjamin; Candace and Scott Van Egdom, of Sioux Falls, and their children, Keegan, Kylee, Katie, and Kade; Carmen and Ryan Mulder, of Sioux Falls, and their children, Dawson, Gavin, Britton, and Rowan; and Cody and Carmen Horstman, of Mesa, Arizona, and their children, Treyten, Hunter, Emiah, Brysen, and Ainsley; five sisters and their husbands, Marjean and Roger Buys, Brenda and Alvin Bylsma, Alvina and Marlyn Hofman, Carol and Marv Anema, and Jan and Wayne Vander Maten; a brother and his wife, Evert and Kathy Van Maanen; two sisters-in-law, Gertie Visser and Ann Horstman; and five brothers-in-law and their wives Gene and June Horstman, Del and Marla Horstman, Virg and Joan Horstman, Nels and Gloria Horstman, and Bob and Glenda Horstman; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband’s parents, Gerrit and Angeline Horstman; and five brothers-in-law, Marion Hostman, and his wife, Agnes; Gerald Horstman, and his wife, Evie; Irv Horstman; Keith Horstman; and Ed Visser.

Memorials will be given to the Hull Christian School and Western Christian High School.
