Philip Jay was born on April 13, 1962, in Orange City, the youngest of six children born to Gilbert and Kathryn (Swets) Rensink. He grew up on a farm east of Hospers and graduated from Floyd Valley High School.

Following high school, Phil attended Northwestern College in Orange City, where he played basketball for the Red Raiders. He later returned to his parents’ farm and eventually took over farming the land, growing corn and beans. He also spent many Decembers in Pompano Beach, Florida, where he worked for Hart-T Tree Farms selling Christmas trees.

Mr. Rensink was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church in Hospers, which later became the Trinity Reformed Church Hospers Campus. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and liked to go fishing. He also enjoyed family get-togethers and especially appreciated spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his five siblings, Carol, and her husband, Don Kohlstedt, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Glenda, and her husband, Harlan De Jong, of Sioux Center; Judy Rowenhorst, of Orange City; Robert Rensink, and his wife, Karen, of Denver, Colorado; and Laura, and her husband, Arlin Roskam, of Sioux Center; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Leon Rowenhorst.

Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
