Mrs. Roger Morrissey’s maiden name was Catherine Pomfrey. She was born 1824 in the county Cork Ireland, being at the time of her death 88 years of age. At the age of twenty she came to the United States locating at Holyoke Mass, where in 1854 she married Morrissey. Four children were born to his union, viz: Mrs. Thos. Lynch, Mrs. P. C Gehan and James and John Morrissey, all of whom survive her except Mrs. Lynch In 1867 they came to Sioux City, and in 1870 they removed to Clay county, SD, east of Vermillion where in 1877 Mr. Morrissey died. In 1878 she moved to the northern part of Union County on a farm where she lived until 1896, when together with her son, John Morrissey, she moved to Alcester, where she has since resided. Six weeks ago while on a visit to her daughter, Mrs. P. C. Gehan, of Chatsworth, Iowa, she was taken down with a sever sinking spell, and although every effort was made by loving friends and relatives to restore her to health again, all their efforts were unavailing. Slowly she gre weaker and weaker until on Easter morning at 4 o’clock when she passed away. On Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock high requiem mass was held at the Emmett church. The services ere conducted by Father Bradley of Hawarden, Father Gegan of Wakonda and father Murphy of Emmett parish. The music for the mass was furnished by St. Anthony’s choir of Hawarden, and Father Bradley preached the funeral sermon. The pall bearers listed.
