Helen Brady, 96, of Marcus, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. Father Timothy Pick will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Holy Name Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 12, 2023, at Holy Name Catholic Church. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Tuesday.

Helen Dorothy Brady was born on January 23, 1927, in Granville, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Henrich) List. She attended a one room country school and was taught by her sisters before graduating from Marcus High School in 1943 at the age of 16. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Dorr Feed Mill for three years.

On April 23, 1947 Helen married her soulmate, Lawrence Brady, a handsome Irish gentleman. The couple made their home northwest of Marcus where they farmed together for 40 years while raising their eight children. On the farm Helen enjoyed her large gardens and did a great deal of canning, cooking and baking, which she loved doing for her family and for gatherings.

Lawrence and Helen retired to Marcus in 1987. During their nearly 60 year marriage they enjoyed dancing, playing cards with friends, and traveling. Ireland, Germany, and Alaska were some of their favorite trips, and they often made lifelong friends during their travels.

Helen remained very active in her later years by continuing her gardening, volunteering at Heartland Care Center, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, and keeping up with her reading.

She will be greatly missed by her children and their spouses, Lois and Dan Buck of Cherokee, IA, Joan and Dean Wright of Valrico, FL, Sandy and Guy Pick of Pflugerville, TX, Tom and Karen Brady of Iowa City, IA, Jerry and Jan Brady of Marcus, IA, Mike and Rose Brady of Marcus, IA and Janet and Rick McDaniel of Muscatine, IA; 21 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gene and Sherry Brady of Waukee, IA and sister Mildred Ruden of Le Mars, IA; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence on March 22, 2007, daughter, Rita Brady; grandson, Travis Wright; sister, Edith and Gerald Delperdang; brothers, Melvin and Florence List and Raymond and Charmaine List; sister, Esther and Tim Reuter; and brothers-in-law, Eldon Ruden and Phil and Pat Brady.

Memorials may be directed to the Heartland Care Center in Marcus.
