Mr. Ron Techen, age 84, of Hull, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023, at Sioux Center Health.

A visitation with the family present will be held on Friday, June 2, from 12:00pm to 1:30pm, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. There will be a funeral service on Friday, at 2:00pm, at the church with the Rev. Timothy Ouwinga officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. The Oolman Funeral Home in Hull is in charge of arrangements.

Ronald Elmer was born on June 21, 1938, in Hull, the son of Elmer Clarence Arthur and Erna Magdalena (Schulz) Techen. He was raised on the family farm near Doon and attended country school through the eighth grade.

He was united in marriage to Betty Jean Cuperus, on July 1, 1960, in Hull, where they made their home. Ron worked for numerous businesses in the area, including ten years each at Sioux Roofing and Van Zee Enterprises.

Mr. Techen was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. Having grown up on the farm, he loved to be out in the tractor helping when and where he could. He enjoyed camping with his whole family, vacationing to Arizona in the winters, and his daily coffee time with the guys at the Hull Coop Cenex Convenience Store.

Survivors include his wife of more than 62 years, Betty, of Hull; four children, Terry Techen, and Starla, and her husband, Brent De Groot, all of Hull; Kelly Techen, and his wife, Kathi, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Wendy, and her husband, Faron De Graaff, of Aurora, Colorado; four grandchildren, Carri, and her husband Austin; Cindi, and her husband, Tyler; Josh, and his wife, Kayla; and Kyle; three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Nancy and Ken Nielsen, of Hull; a brother-in-law, Jim Boeve, of Beaver Creek, Minnesota; and Betty’s three siblings and their spouses, Earl and Marge Cuperus, Vel and Jim Keizer, and Lavonne and Walt DenHoed, all of Hull.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Boeve.

Memorials will be given to the Hull Christian School.
