ALCESTER, SOUTH DAKOTA ~ Phyllis J. Stephenson, 85, of Alcester, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Alcester Care and Rehab Center.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Hawarden United Methodist Church in Hawarden, Iowa with Pastor Scott Conner of the Alcester Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. prior to the funeral and after the committal at a time of refreshment and fellowship back at the church. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is assisting the family. The family prefers memorials to be directed to the Alcester VFW Auxiliary.

Phyllis Stephenson was born September 8, 1937, in Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of William and Emma (Loge) Jurgensen. She attended Hawarden High School and married Robert Charles Warner on March 20, 1955. They made their home in the Alcester, South Dakota area. Phyllis later married Harold Stephenson on September 15, 1972. They lived on a farm near Alcester before moving into town in 2005. Phyllis worked in housekeeping at Morningside Manor for 25 years. Harold died on July 1, 2007.

Phyllis was a member of the Hawarden United Methodist Church and the Alcester VFW Auxiliary where she held many offices. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, and bird and squirrel watching.

Phyllis is survived by four sons, David and Michelle Warner of Alcester, Darrell and Rachele Warner of Sioux Center, Iowa, Tim and Cathy Warner of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and Terry Warner of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; daughter, Cindy Peterson of Alcester; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and son, Douglas Warner on March 20, 2004.
