IRETON, IOWA ~ Karen Lammers, 79, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, formerly of Ireton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Bethany Lutheran Home in Council Bluffs.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2023, at First Reformed Church in Ireton, with Rev. Gerald Norman officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton followed by lunch and fellowship at the Ireton Community Center. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, at the church. The Porter Funeral Home in Ireton is assisting the family. Karen’s family requests memorials be directed to the First Reformed Church in Ireton in memory of Karen.

Karen Lammers, daughter of William and Dorothy (Ver Hoeven) Koopmans was born on November 23, 1943 at home in Ireton, Iowa. Karen graduated from West Sioux High School in 1962. On August 25th, 1972, she was united in marriage to Gerrit Lammers in Ireton. She worked with Gerrit at Gerrit’s Machine Shop in Ireton until his passing in 1988.

Karen diligently attended her daughter’s activities in Sioux Center and West Sioux cheering on the Lammers girls. Karen enjoyed embroidering, gardening, canning, freezing, and volunteering at community events and at the church. She was also known to be a regular coffee drinker at the Ireton Super Stop with the ladies. Karen was an active member of the First Reformed Church in Ireton, Iowa until she moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa and became a member of the Westwood Community Church in Omaha, Nebraska. Later in life, she enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s events.

Karen is survived by her four daughters, Sheila (Dennis) Cleaver, Heather (Matt) Anderson, Stacy (Chris) Lammers, and Lisa (Jeff) Klopfenstein; eight grandchildren, Christian, Kelsey, Addison, Lance, Sydney, Tegan, Lena, and Lucas; one sister, Wanda (Steve) Bonnes; two brothers, Fred (Shari) Koopmans and Willard (Donna) Koopmans; and two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Dykstra and Fannie Menning.

She was welcomed into heaven by her husband, Gerrit Lammers, her parents, and many other family members.
