Miss Dena Scholten is seriously ill at her home.

From the Alton Democrat, November 8, 1919, Orange City news:
Miss Dena Scholten, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Scholten, passed away at the home Tuesday [November 4] after an illness of seven months.

From De Volksvriend (Orange City), November 6, 1919:

Met den toestand van Miss Dena Scholten is het ornstig gesteld. Zij verkeert reeds verscheiden dagen in bewusteloozen toestand. Heden Maandag is zij zeer kalm en rustig.
Later – Bij het ter perse gaan vertemen wij dat de kranke Dinsdag av. Overleden is, in den leeftijd van 25 jaren. Begrafenis op Vrijdag, diensten pm half 2 aan huis en om 2 uur in de 1ste Ger. kerk. Onze innige deeineming met al de trourenden.

Translation:
Miss Dena Scholten’s condition is serious. She has been unconscious for several days. This Monday she is very calm and quiet.
Later – At the time of going to press we learn that the sick one died Tuesday evening, at the age of 25 years. The funeral will be on Friday, at 1:30 at the home and at 2 o’clock in the 1st Reformed church. Our deepest condolences to all the bereaved.

RESEARCH NOTES

Her FindaGrave.com page has her as Berendina “Dena” Scholten, born July 1894 in Orange City, died 4 Nov 1919 in Orange City, buried in West Lawn Cemetery. Parents Lambertus Scholten (1861-1939) and Marie Louise Ida Schwarz Scholten (1858-1944). There is a photo of her headstone, which spells her name Berendena C.; this is the only place where this spelling appears.

The 1900 and 1910 U.S. censuses also give her name as Berendina C., and her father’s obituaries as Berendina and Beradina. The 1900 census gives her birth date as July 1894.

Family tree information on Ancestry.com has Lambertus Scholten, born 14 July 1861 Netherlands, wife Marie Louise Ida Schwarz (1858-1944), children Minnie (1887), Johann (1890), Berendina (1894), and William (1898).
