L. SCHOLTEN LIVED 51 YEARS IN O.C.

After suffering with throat trouble for several weeks, followed by a siege of pneumonia, Mr. Lambertus Scholten died at his home Friday, Sept. 15 at the age of 78 years.

Mr. Scholten was born at Gendringer, Gelderland, the Netherlands, in 1861. On March 3, 1887 he was married to Miss Marie Schwarz of Nywegen and the young couple left a few days later for America, arriving in Orange City April 1, 1887. They had lived there in the same neighborhood for over 51 years. He was also one of the oldest members of the 1st Ref. church.
For 24 years he was the janitor of the Public school but due to his advancing age he was forced to take up lighter work.

Four children were born to them. Dr. John who died in 1938; Minnie, Mrs. John Kroon of Sioux Center; Beradina who died in 1919 and William of Pender, Neb. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and a half-sister, Mrs. Ed Vanden Brink of Sheldon, and by his widow.

Funeral services were held at the 1st. Ref. church with Rev. Colenbrander in charge. Interment was made in the local Cemetery.

LAMBERTUS SCHOLTEN

A long time resident of Orange City, Lambertus Scholten died Friday morning at his home, Death was due to pneumonia. He was 78 years, 3 months of age at the time of his death. On March 3, 1937 he and his wife, nee Marie Louisa Eda Schwarz, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Scholten was born at Gendringen, Gelderland, The Netherlands, June 14, 1861 and came to America March 8, 1887. That same year the Scholtens moved to Orange City where they have lived ever since.

Four children were born to this union and two survive. Mina, Mrs. John Kroon lives in Sioux Center and William lives at Pender, Neb. Dr. John Scholten died at Cedar Rapids in 1938 and Berendina died in 1919. One half sister, Mrs. Ed Vanden Brink, lives at Sheldon. There are 10 grandchildren.

For many years, Mr. Scholten was janitor of the Public school. The last 10 years he served as town assessor. He also did painting and papering.

Funeral services were held Monday at the house at 1 p.m. and in the First Reformed church at 1:30. He was a member of this church for 52 years. Rev. Mr. H. Colenbrander officiated at the services and burial was in the local cemetery.

Scholten) has Lambertus Scholten, born June 14, 1861 in the Netherlands; parents Johann Scholten and Berendina Lugman[?]; occupation, assessor; died in Orange City at 9 a.m. September 15, 1939; cause, lobar pneumonia, started 9-10-30; tissue removed from esophagus for biopsy 9-8-39; certificate says "(over)", but no back side is present online.

His FindaGrave.com page has Lambertus Scholten, born 14 June 1861 in Gendringen, Oude Ijsselstreek Municipality, Gelderland, Netherlands. No parents listed. Wife Marie Louise Ida Schwarz Scholten (1858-1944, married 1887). Three children listed: Wilhelmina Sophia Scholten Kroon (1887-1944), Berendina Scholten (1894-1919), William A. J. Scholten (1898-1954).
