Donna M. Tyler, 93, formerly of Rock Valley, IA and Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023 at Bartels Retirement Center, Waverly, IA.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Friday, January 6, at Miller Funeral Home-Southside Chapel, 7400 S. Minnesota Ave., Sioux Falls, SD with the family present to greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be next to her husband, Ernest, at Hills of Rest Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD.

Donna Mae Jacobson, daughter of Alfred and Anna (Snartemo) Jacobson, was born on July 26, 1929, near Inwood, IA. As an elementary student, she moved with her parents to a farm near Crooks, SD. She completed grade school and attended Lyons High School, graduating in 1947. Donna attended General Beadle College in Madison, SD, and taught at the Renner Schoolhouse for one year before moving to Sioux Falls where she worked for Western Surety as a bonding clerk.

Donna was united in marriage to Ernest S. Tyler Jr, on November 25, 1950 near Crooks, SD. She worked at several different office jobs during the time Ernest was in the Air Force. The Tylers were stationed in Ohio, Idaho and at Wright-Patterson AFB in Texas, where Donna was a supervisor in the Civil Service. After returning to South Dakota, the couple farmed near Crooks, SD, while Ernest attended Augustana college in Sioux Falls. In 1959, they moved to Rock Valley, IA when Ernest began his teaching career and Donna worked in the office for Farmers Elevator for 23 years.

Donna was an active member of the Pioneer United Methodist Church, taking part in Women’s Circle, church bazaars and mission projects etc. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and also at the nursing home. Donna was an avid Bridge player and belonged to several bridge clubs. Donna was enthused about outdoor activities, especially, golfing, fitness walking, and flower and vegetable gardening.

After retirement in 2004, the Tyler's returned to Sioux Falls, SD., and became active members at First United Methodist Church. Donna attended Women’s Circle, and she and Ernest enjoyed making new friends with members of the Wedded Band.

Donna was a devoted mother and was very involved with her children and grandchildren throughout their lives. Over the years, she attended many school sporting events, as well as music programs. The annual Tyler family Okoboji trip, holiday gatherings, birthday parties, and visits brought her the greatest joy. Donna will be remembered for her kindness, thoughtfulness and lifelong spirit of giving to others. She was blessed with a strong faith, courage, and commitment to family.

Donna is survived by three children, Debra (Nathan) Beving, Cedar Falls, IA, Kevin (Cindy) Tyler, Daytona Beach Shores, FL, and Steven (Linda) Tyler, Sioux Falls, SD; five grandchildren, Haley Beving, Seattle, WA, Mackenzie Beving, Cedar Falls, IA, Spencer Tyler, Ormond Beach, FL, Scott (Brooke) Tyler, Sioux Falls, SD, Madison (Tanner) Fitz, Sioux Falls, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Avis Jacobson, Violet Bahnson, Joan Jacobson; and three brothers, Francis, Floyd and Mark Jacobson.
