From the Alton Democrat, November 7, 1941:

Mrs. Gt. Fedders Jr. Answers Call

Mrs. Gerrit Fedders, Jr., passed on Friday afternoon, soon after she had reached a Sioux City hospital. Her condition having become alarming, she was taken by ambulance to Sioux City.

Henrietta Van Roekel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Toon Van Roekel, was 29 years of age. The family lived for some time at Alton, and have many friends in this community who sympathize with the bereaved husband, parents and sisters and brothers. She was married a few years ago to Gerrit Fedders, who survives her together with her parents, three sisters, Nancy, Mrs. L. Luchtenburg, Leona, and two brothers, Henry and Arthur.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday in the First Ref. church with Rev. H. Colenbrander in charge. Interment was in Nassau township cemetery at Alton.

Mrs. Gerrit Fedders Dies at Age of 29

Mrs. Gerrit Fedders, Jr. died Friday evening in an ambulance enroute to a Sioux City hospital where she was to be operated on for gallstones. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Van Roekel who live southwest of Orange City on the old Cambier farm. Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Fedders, Jr. made their home near Newkirk.

Funeral services were held in Orange City at the Colenbrander Church on Tuesday afternoon. Survivors include her husband, Gerrit Fedders, Jr., her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Van Roekel, four brothers and sisters, Henry Van Roekel, California, Arthur at home, Leora, at home, and Nancy (Mrs. Leonard Luxemberg) of Ashton. Her brother Henry who is in the army in California, came home on Monday for the funeral and will have a two week furlough.

MRS. GERRIT FEDDERS

Mrs. Gerrit Fedders passed away Friday, Oct. 31, 1941 at the Lutheran hospital at Sioux City, at the age of 29 years, 3 months and 29 days. Her death was caused by gall stones and other complications.

She was born July 2, 1912 near Alton, Ia. She was the former Henrietta Van Roekel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Van Roekel of Carnes. On January 15, 1937 she was united in marriage to Gerrit Fedders and lived for 3 years on the farm 2 miles north and 1½ miles west of Orange City. From there they moved to the farm 1 mile south and ½ mile east of Newkirk, where she lived at the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Arta, who was the oldest of the family, who died at the age of 10 years. Surviving her are her husband, her parents, and 2 brothers and 2 sisters, namely, Nancy, Mrs. Leonard Luchtenburg, Prvt. Henry Van Roekel who is stationed at March Field, Calif., Arthur and Lenore who are still at home.

The funeral services were held at 12:30 at the home and at 1:30 in the First Ref. church, Tuesday afternoon with Rev. H. Colenbrander officiating. Interment took place at the Alton cemetery.

No death certificate for her was found online.

Her FindaGrave.com page adds family information: parents Anthony Van Roekel (1886-1969) and Jeanette Vander Meer Van Roekel (1889-1978); four siblings listed: Artie Elizabeth Van Roekel (1909-1919), Nancy Johanna Van Roekel Luchtenburg (1915-2002), Henry Abraham Van Roekel (1918-1988), and Arthur Van Roekel (1922-1973); husband Gerrit Fedders (1911-1965). There is also a photo of her headstone. Gerrit’s page shows that he remarried, to Harriet Vander Meer, in 1949.
