Frances M. Koob, age 100 of Granville, IA passed away peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at Orange City Area Health Systems.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 30, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, IA, with Father Daniel Greving officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Granville. Visitation with family present will be Friday from 4-7 p.m. with parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 6 p.m. all at the church. Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the funeral on Saturday at the church. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA.

Frances Mary was born to John and Mary (Klein) Ney on February 1, 1922, on a farm just south of Granville. She was raised in the Granville area and attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Granville.

On November 11, 1943, she married Milo Koob at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. They moved to the Koob family farm 3 miles north of Granville where they farmed and raised their 8 children. In 1977, they moved to their new home just east of Granville.

Fran was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling with Milo, baking, cooking, playing cards, and watching baseball. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Milo passed away on June 4, 2003, after 59 years of marriage. In 2012, she moved to Landsmeer Retirement Community in Orange City and lived there till the time of her death.

Survivors include her 8 children: Sam and Mary Lee of Council Bluffs, Rosemary Meis of Council Bluffs, Marge Mathern of Sioux City, Shirley and Emmet Steffes of Omaha, Denny and Kay of Granville, Patty and Tom Kiernan of Alton, Dale and Deb of Worthington, and Kristy and Roger Kunkel of Sioux City; 17 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Kitty Penning, and 1 sister-in-law, Doralice Ney; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Milo; 3 son-in-laws, Kenny Konz, Ron Meis, and David “Pete” Mathern; 1 grandson, Craig Koob, and 1 great-grandson, Jacob Koob. She was also preceded by 7 brothers and their spouses, Peter (Marie), Theodore (Kathryn), Lawrence (Helen), Anthony (Evelyn), Joseph (Millie), Jack, and Robert in infancy; 4 sisters and their spouses, Emma (Clarence) Graff, Marie (Louie) Meinen, Rosalia (Ed) Koob, and Elizabeth in infancy; 1 brother-in-law, Ade Penning; and Milo’s 9 siblings and their spouses.

The family would like to thank Father Daniel Greving for his spiritual guidance, the staff at Landsmeer for the wonderful care given to our mother for the past 10 years, Hospice and the doctors and nurses of Orange City Area Health System for their compassionate care in the past 2 weeks.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
