Sandy was born October 9, 1953 in Primghar, IA to Raymond and Agnes Grady. She grew up in Granville, IA and graduated from Spalding High School in 1972. Sandy married Dennis Avery on October 21, 1983. Together they raised one son, Neil, and two daughters Stephanie and Christine, in Sioux City, IA.

Sandy meant so much to so many people in her life. “Mother” had a passion for travel – and if her travels took her to the beach, she’d always come home with at least one souvenir rock or seashell. “Mom” was always there for her kids when they needed a helping hand. Sandy loved nothing more than taking a moment to cherish the beauty she always surrounded herself with. She enjoyed coffee with friends, especially her Friday morning coffee dates, spending quality time in her garden, and watching birds from her front porch. “Nana” was known for her positive outlook on life – even throughout the entirety of her long-fought battle with cancer. Nothing gave her greater joy than the time she spent with her grandkids. “Nana-banana” was very optimistic, had a very kind and compassionate spirit and was friends with everyone she met.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis, and three children, Neil (Sarah) Avery, Stephanie (Greg) Gemberling of Sioux City IA, Christine (Ian Saari) Avery of Saint Paul MN, and her beloved grandkids Kalla, AvaLynne, Khloe, Penelope, Declyn, Sydney, and Buddy. She is also survived by her loving and gracious siblings; her many cousins, nieces and nephews; and her countless, cherished friends. She will be truly missed by all those lucky enough to have spent time with her.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents Ray and Agnes Grady, brother Tom, niece Melanie Grady, two nephews, Tom Full and Dale Burton, mother-in-law, Marie Davis and brother-in-law, Lloyd Full.
