From the Rock Valley Bee, September 25, 1958:

MRS. EDITH FRITTS FORMER RESIDENT DIED SUNDAY

Word was received here of the death of Mrs. Edith Fritts, 85, at her home in Mitchell, S.D., Sunday morning.

Mrs. Fritts was the former Edith Akin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Akin and lived in this territory until about 20 years ago when the family moved to Dell Rapids. Her husband, Amos, was manager of the Farmers Lumber Co. here for many years.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Mitchell with burial at Dell Rapids.

She is survived by two sons, Elmer of Mankato, Minn., and Kenneth of Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Nina, Mrs. V. P. Cullen of Burlington; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

RESEARCH NOTES

An obit in the Rock Valley news section of the Sioux Center News (Sept. 25) adds that she had broken her rib some time ago and developed pneumonia.

Her FindaGrave.com page has Edith Lorinda Akin Fritts, born 1873, died 21 Sep 1958 in Davison County, S.D., buried in Dell Rapids Cemetery. Spouse Amos John Fritts (1867-1941). Daughter Nina Kathryn Fritts Cullen (1903-2004). There is a photo of her headstone, and a photo of her as an elderly woman sitting in a rocking chair.

The Sioux County marriage register for 1893/1894 has groom Amos J. Fritts, age 27, resident of Hudson, S.D., a lumberman, born in Gainsville, Iowa, parents P. H. Fritts and M. Miller; bride Edith Lorinda Akin, age 22, resident of Hudson, S.D., born in Cedar Falls, Iowa, parents J. E. Akin and L. Clough; married at the J. E. Akin residence, May 23, 1894.

The 1950 U.S. census shows her living in Mankato, Minn. with her son Elmer A., manager of the Farm Loan Agency, and his family. A Mitchell, S.D. city directory for 1955 shows her living there; her son Kenneth H. and his wife Hortense also live in Mitchell.
