OBITUARY of Mrs John Jemming, Sr Source Alton Democrat of October 6, 1923

Long Time Hospers Citizen Gone Mrs. John Jemming, Sr. Pioneer Laid to Rest – Hospers News of the week.

A few minutes before noon on Thursday the community was grieved to hear the bells toll for the passing away of Mrs. John Jemming, Sr. She had been an invalid for about a year and was nearly 75 years of age.

She was born in Decada, Wis. It has been some 45 years since she came from Illinois to this community with her husband who preceded her in death nine years. They were among the early pioneers and spent practically their whole lives on the farm they homesteaded.

Eight children were born to them, all of whom were boys with the exception of the first child which died at birth. The boys are John and Dominic residing here, Mike, deceased. Albert residing at Granville, Nick and Peter, deceased and Frank who it is presumed lives in Minneapolis. The whereabouts of the latter could not be ascertained at this time.

The funeral services were held on Saturday morning from St. Anthony’s church of which Mrs. Jemming was a devout member.

She will be greatly missed as her resignation and cheerfulness were her characteristics and we join the friends of the family in extending condolence to the bereaved relatives.

Those from away to attend were; Barney Moes, Mrs. Pete Moes and Mrs. Maggie Winkle of Granville, Mr. Nick Croat of Alton and Nick Paulus a brother of the deceased from Graceville, MN.
