Anna was born on March 18, 1934, in Shindler, South Dakota, the youngest of five children born to Pete and Ada (Tilstra) Bakker. At a young age, her family moved to New Jersey so her father could work as a dairyman. In 1939, following the tragic death of her father in a tractor accident, the family moved to Iowa where they lived with Ada’s parents before settling at Alvord, where Anna attended country school.

As a young woman, Anna moved to Rock Rapids for work and met Donald Dewain Tiedeman. They were united in marriage on December 12, 1952, in Alvord. Together they settled on a farm north of Hull, where she enjoyed helping Don on the farm, milking cows, and whatever other chores needed to be done, as well as cleaning homes for other area families. While raising their own family, Anna and Don experienced the loss of two children, Connie, who was born with spina bifida and lived to be 8-months old; and Arwin, after he contracted spinal meningitis at the age of two.

Don and Anna retired into Hull in 2002, and spent many winters together in Mesa, Arizona, before moving to Aspen Heights Assisted Living in Hull, in 2014. Don passed away on October 10, 2014, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, after more than 61 years of marriage. Anna remained at Aspen Heights until moving to Whispering Heights, and later to Riverview Ridge Assisted Living, both in Rock Valley.
