From the Rock Valley Bee, April 4, 1941:

F. FOERSTER PASSES AWAY SUDDENLY
Father of Rev. A. J. Foerster Is Summoned

The community was greatly shocked Friday morning, March 28, by the unexpected passing of Mr. Ferdinand Foerster, father of Rev. A. J. Foerster. He was taken sick very suddenly with a heart attack and passed away within about twenty minutes. All possible help was administered, but to no avail.

He is survived by his wife, who was with him when he died, by Rev. A. J. Foerster, pastor of St. Mary’s parish, and by two daughters and a son who live in Newark, New Jersey. Mr. Foerster was almost 77 years of age. His home was in Newark, N.J., but he and his wife had spent most of the past year in Rock Valley with Rev. A. J. Foerster who has been in very poor health.

A Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated at Rock Valley at 10 o’clock Saturday morning with Ref. F. Enders as celebrant, Father Neppel of Alton as Master of Ceremonies, Father Graf of Hawarden and Father Buckholz of Alvord as Deacons. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Schemel of Remsen, Fathers Dalhof of Granville, McGool[?] of Sheldon, and Jantse of Larchwood, were also present.

The remains were taken back to Newark, N.J., for burial. Miss Frances Heffernan of Sioux Falls accompanied Mrs. Foerster to Newark.
