Edward Bonneville Dies At Oakland

Edward Bonneville, oldest son of Mrs. A. M. Bonneville of Alton, died Feb. first at his home in Oakland, Calif., according to word received by the family here. He was 50 years of age and passed on after an illness of six weeks.

He was born June 18, 1890, at Alton and received his education at St. Mary’s Academy. After his graduation he was employed at the F. M. Slagle Lumber Co. yard, but left in 1909 for Oregon, where he worked in a grocery store. Later he went to California and settled at Oakland, where in 1916 he married Miss Etta McMath of Oakland. For the past 19 years he has been employed by the Standard Oil Co. doing clerical work in the office at San Francisco.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Bonneville of Alton, his widow at Oakland, three brothers and three sisters, namely, John of Long Beach; Frank and Dora (Mrs. Oscar Brule) of Alhambra, Calif.; Lorenz, Oakland, Calif.; Magdelena (Mrs. A. Molitor), Spokane, Wash.; and Beatrice (Mrs. Lynn Sordrager), Alton. This is the first death in the Bonneville family since the passing of their father, and they have the sympathy of many Alton friends.

Masonic Rites For Bonneville

Masonic rites were held today for Edward R. Bonneville, Standard Oil Company employee and prominent Oakland Mason, who died Sunday after a year’s illness.

A native of Iowa, Bonneville had lived in Oakland for the last 25 years. His home here was at 1356 Trestle Glen. He was a member of Fruitvale Lodge No. 336, F.&A.M.; Scottish Rite Bodies; the Legion of Honor of Ashmes Temple and he was past patron of Oak Leaf Chapter No. 8, O.E.S.

Surviving are his widow, Elsie McMath Bonneville, founder of the Jobs Daughters in California; his mother, Mrs. Ann M. Bonneville of Iowa; three brothers, John, Frank and Lorenz; and three sisters, Mrs. Madeline Molitor, Mrs. Dora Brule and Mrs. Beatrice Sorgdrager.

The Fruitvale Chapter, F.&A.M., conducted the services this morning at the Gothic Chapel of the Mountain View Crematorium.

His World War I draft registration card (June 1917) gives his full name as Edward Roden Bonneville, age 27, resident of Oakland, California, married, born June 8, 1890 in Alton, Iowa; present occupation, student; has had prior military service as U.S. Army private, 13 months; medium height, slender build, brown eyes, brown hair.
