From the Alton Democrat, February 7, 1941:

A baby girl was born Thursday morning to Mr. and Mrs. Emmet Root (nee Dorothy Starkenburg) but the child lived only until Friday night. The parents have the sympathy of the community in their loss.

RESEARCH NOTES

Her death certificate has Carrie Rae Root, born January 30, 1941 in Alton; parents Emmett Root, born in Richards, Colorado, and Dorothy Starkenberg, born in Bigelow, Minnesota; died at 11:15 p.m. January 31, 1941; cause, intracranial hemorrhage, due to birth trauma; buried at Orange City, Iowa (originally said Alton cemetery, crossed out).

Her birth certificate says that it was a forceps delivery, and she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage at birth. She was her mother’s first child. Her father was a railroad laborer.

Her FindaGrave.com entry shows her buried in West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City; parents Emmett D. Root (1910-1978) and Dorothy L. Starkenburg Root (1917-2006).
